Whether it’s your first-time camping, or you’ve been a hundred times, packing never gets any easier. At PMX Campers, we believe when camping, it’s always better to be over prepared than under prepared. That’s why we put together a comprehensive list of camping essentials and where you can find them.
Lighting including, flashlights, lanterns and batteries
Lighting is key when you’re essentially living outside in the dark for an extended period. If you are camping with a caravan, lighting for inside is most likely not as crucial compared to camping with a tent. However, if you plan to explore, purchasing some flashlights or a lantern from your local Bunnings can help to ensure you have proper lighting should it be required. You’ll also want to purchase a backup set of batteries just to be safe.
Snacks and food for meals
When camping, food is necessary and depending on how remote you plan to go, it might not be something you can get more of should you run out. We suggest planning, this means outlining and preparing meals for your trip, including snacks.
Get a big shop in at your local Coles or Woolworths before heading off for your trip. It will be much cheaper and easier to buy in bulk beforehand. Consider purchasing easy to prepare items that can be used in multiple dishes, such as:
- Breakfast: eggs, bacon, toast
- Lunch: baked beans and snags
- Dinner: hamburgers, buns, lettuce and tomato
- Snacks: popcorn, veggies, fruit and Vegemite
Sleeping and showering supplies
If you are preparing to embark on an overnight camping trip, sleeping bags, blankets and pillows are essential. If it’s wintertime, consider packing along a wool or cotton fleece blanket which helps trap warm air and keep you nice and warm. If you’re camping somewhere warmer, a thermo-regulated linen blanket absorbs and wicks away moisture, leaving your skin feeling cool and dry.
Towels are also a necessity if you plan to bathe during your trip. Microfibre towels are ideal for a camping situation. Light and compact, these towels also feature odour neutralising technology to keep your towel fresher for longer.
Reusable zip ties
Cables and zip ties can be incredibly handy when camping. When setting up camp, you can use them to hold down tarps, tie off rubbish, hang lights, cords and hoses, amongst other things. If you are traveling with a trailer or caravan, you can even create a makeshift clothing line to hang your wet clothes out to dry using cable ties.
